Drivers of Deposit Mobilization in Private Commercial Banks of Ethiopia

Abstract: Deposit mobilization is a deep-seated part of banking activity. Banks have a decisive implication in enlightening economic efficiency by creating channel between lender and borrower via transferring funds from resource surplus unit to deficit resource unit that have better productive investment opportunities. Therefore, it is indispensable to examine the drivers of Commercial banks deposit mobilization in Ethiopia. To conduct the study, the panel data type from 2010-2019 has been used. Also, for this study the fixed effect model with the application of some diagnostic tests like langragian test, hausman test, unit root test heteroskedasticity test and autocorrelation tests have been used. The data has been analyzed by the descriptive and econometrics analysis. The descriptive analysis of the study shown that the average rate of commercial banks deposit mobilization in Ethiopia in the last nine subsequent years was growing by 9.7 percent and the rate of growth of branch expansion growing by 1.413 percent. In general, inflation rate rate of risk, the rate of return to asset, and Liquidity ratio altered by 137, 0.39, 0.31&0.003 percent, respectively. The result of fixed effect model indicates that, among seven explanatory variables four variables such as government expenditure, interest rate, and return on asset positively and significantly affect at 5% and 10% deposit mobilization but inflation rate is statistically and negatively affected deposit mobilization at 5% level of significance. Given the result of the study, the following recommendations have been forwarded: the responsible agent shall be increase government expenditure of infrastructure, increase interest rate and decrease inflation rate to raise deposit mobilization in Ethiopia.

Abstract: Tourism is a catalyst for development if properly managed and as well have policies that stand as a benchmark for a sustainable development. The kingdom of Wogada is richly blessed with numerous attractions, and masquerading is commonly associated with the people which when properly managed can create employment opportunities, generate income, and improve the standard of living of the host community. In view of this assertion this study highlights the attractions of the destination such as Oluborgor Lake, beach, stone carving (monolith), rocks as well as different types of masquerading with emphasis on Etor, to mention but a few, that can be used as attractions if fully developed. Etor dance is a dramatic expression of the people of Ebo Yala in Yala LGA which is conveyed by regal dance movements sometimes accompanied by dialogue and chants. The mere size of this masquerade is daunting and because masquerading is associated with the people of Ebo, it is believed that if well harnessed and planned the community can leverage on its touristic benefits in the tourism value Chain advantage to impact lives and attract tourists alikeA lot of time it is believed that the Etor masquerade that is staged during the funeral of great men act as veritable ferryman to the great beyond. As a unifying factor during performance this didactic theatre is revered and capable of attracting authentic tourists. Tourism in Yala local government has not been given full attention wogada to be precise. Historiography was the method used in obtaining information for this study and oral tradition.

Abstract: Access to affordable and decent housing remains a dream to many households, especially in developing nations. In Kenya, the housing need has been identified as one of the most agent area that needs attention. In fact, the government has put affordable housing as one of the big four agenda for the Nation. This study examined the relationship between cost of financing and affordability of housing in Nakuru East and Nakuru West Sub-Counties. Data was collected from 384 households sampled from the 11 wards in the two sub-counties. Stratified random sampling was used to ensure adequate representation of every ward in the sample. Data was collected through self-administered structured questionnaires and interviews. A pilot test was conducted prior to the actual study, incorporating reliability and validly tests. The study achieved a response rate of more than 87%. Findings from analysis revealed that cost of finance is significant determinant of affordability of housing. The study recommends that the government and other stakeholders in the housing sector should consider subsidizing cost of building materials, land, and cost of professional services, mortgage facilities as well as water and electricity. The government can partner with financial institutions as well as private investment organizations to offer more affordable housing solutions to the general public.
